Bowling Green, Ky. — Western Kentucky University men’s golf coach Brian Tirpak announced the 2007-08 schedule on Friday that features six tournaments during the fall and five events in the spring, capped off by the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
“We are looking forward to traveling to nine different states to give us a chance on bettering our game,” said Tirpak. “We are always excited about having the opportunity to play at different courses from the east coast to the west coast.”
The Hilltoppers will begin their quest for a second Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Mean Green Classic in Denton, Texas on Sunday. WKU will travel to Big 12 country to play in the Kansas Jayhawk Invitational in Lawrence, Kan., on Sept. 16-18.
After a week off, the team will travel to Loveland, Ohio, for the Xavier Invitational on Sept. 30. The Toppers head to Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla., for the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic on Thursday Oct. 4-7.
After a two-week break, the Hilltoppers will travel to Franklin, Tenn., for the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate Oct. 20-23. Finishing up its fall schedule, WKU will travel back to Texas for the UTSA Roadrunner Invitational in San Antonio Oct. 28-30.
Beginning spring schedule, WKU will host the Kauai Collegiate Cup in Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii, on March 13-15. “We are extremely excited to be hosting the ninth annual Kauai Collegiate Cup on the beautiful island of Kauai,” stated Tirpak.
WKU will then travel to conference foe Middle Tennessee for the Aldila/MTSU Intercollegiate in Murfreesboro March 30-April 2.
Scottsdale, Ariz., is the next stop for the Cleveland Golf/Cowboy Classic hosted by Wyoming. WKU travels next to Lexington for the UK Bluegrass Invitational before heading to Florence, Ala., for the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
“We think that our schedule gives us the best opportunity to better our game and make a trip to the NCAA Regional again,” said Tirpak. “We have a strong team — like our 2006 SBC champions — and the tournaments we have entered give us the best chance to regain the title.”
