Bowling Green, Ky. — Former Western Kentucky University golfer Robert Crockett has completed the first round of qualifying for the 2007 U.S. Open Championship in Oakmont, Pa.
Old Silo Golf Club in Mt. Sterling, Ky., was the host for the event in which Crockett posted a score of 68. He and Benjamin McClung, from Ponte Verda, Fla., tied for the lead.
Local qualifying began on May 10, 2007 at 110 locations around the United States. Crockett's next step in joining the field at Oakmont Country Club this summer will begin Tuesday (May 29) for sectional qualifying which will be held at fourteen yet to be determined sites around the United States, England, and Japan. Qualifying will conclude June 5, 2007 in time for the U.S. Open Championship June 11-17, 2007.
