WKU was led by junior Troy Hawkins (68-75-72 — 215) who carded a four-under par 68 in the first round to propel him to a third place finish — a career-best. The Elizabethtown, Ky., native fired a 215 (one stroke under par) through the three rounds, just three strokes behind the medallist, Andrew Ross (69-71-72 — 212), of Arkansas State.
The Hilltoppers’ Brent Long (73-75-73 — 221) also finished in the top-25. He carded two 73-stroke rounds on his way to tying for 16th. Senior Robby Shaw fired a 226 to tie for 34th and sophomore Justin Perry finished tied for 46th with a 229. Nick Johnston and Matt Sherertz rounded out the Hilltopper squad, carding 231 and 235, respectively.
WKU will be back in action Monday in the Kansas Jayhawk Invitational. The Hilltoppers finished 9th of 13 in last year’s tournament.
