The Lady Toppers dropped to 5-3 on the year, while Drake improved to 3-3-1.
The Bulldogs scored both of their goals during an eight-minute stretch in the first half. Melissa Nelson recorded an unassisted goal after gathering a rebound off a blocked shot by Western goal keeper Meredith Goodson in the ninth minute of the game. Nelson then assisted on a header from Jennie Brown that put Drake up by two goals in the 17th minute.
Drake had a 15-10 shot advantage in the game, eight of which came on goal. WKU managed only three shots in the first period, and then added seven shots in the second, but recorded only one shot on goal for the game.
Western plays host to Wright State in its final nonconference match of the season on Sunday (Sept. 19) at 1 p.m. (CDT).
