Leading the way for the Toppers in their season opener was Nick Johnston (73-71-78 – 222). He finished the event tied for 19th, just 11 strokes behind the tournament champion. Robby Shaw (74-77-80 – 231) and Parker Scarbro (77-73-81 – 231) tied for 50th on the leader board. While, Troy Hawkins (78-81-77 – 236) finished tied for 61st and Brent Long (78-73-77 – 238) ended play tied for 67th.
The Hilltoppers will have just less than one week off to prepare for play in the Kansas Jayhawk Invitational in Lawrence, Kan. Tee-off is set for Monday Sept. 20 for the Western team, who will be playing in the event for the first time.
