Nick Johnston (73-71 – 144) is leading the way for the Hilltoppers after the first two rounds. The Louisville, Ky., sophomore is tied for 8th, just three strokes behind the current pace setting Preston Smith (73-68 – 141) of Louisiana Tech and Brian Grossman (71-70 – 141) of Stephan F. Austin. Johnston’s 73 strokes in the first round tied his career-best while the 71-stroke second round became a new mark in his stat profile.
Western has two other golfers in the top-40; junior Parker Scarbro (77-73 – 150) is playing in his first event as a Hilltopper and is tied for 35th, while Robby Shaw (74-77 – 151) is three spots back, tied for 38th. The other two golfers who made the trip with WKU is Troy Hawkins (78-81 – 159), who is 70th and Brent Long (78-83 – 161), who is tied for 73rd.
The final round of the tournament at the Lantana Golf Club will tee off in the morning.
