The Fighting Irish (6-0) got the scoring started in the 16th minute when Annie Schefter connected on a crossing shot from 30 yards out to give Notre Dame a 1-0 lead. UND struck again four minutes later when Amy Warner netted a header past Western goalkeeper Becky Kasper for a 2-0 Fighting Irish advantage. Western (2-3) settled down defensively after the second goal and, despite being outshot 11-0 in the period, the Lady Toppers trailed by just two goals at halftime.
Notre Dame took little time putting the match away, scoring three goals in the first four minutes of the second half. Katie Thorlakson netted the first two Irish goals of the periuod, and Schefter connected on a penalty kick for her second goal of the night to make it 5-0. The Fighting Irish put were able to run out the clock from there to finish off the shutout.
Western was able to put up three shots in the match, with Andrea Doogs producing the only shot on goal for the Lady Toppers. Kasper played all 90 minutes in goal for Western, recording eight saves.
