Hilltoppers Tie for Eighth at Branson

Branson, Mo. - Freshman Robby Shaw and senior Adam Cox tied for 29th to lead the Western Kentucky University men's golf team to a share of eighth place today at the Branson Creek Invitational. The Hilltoppers finished with a 914 total to tie Northern Illinois and host Southwest Missouri State for eighth out of the 14-team field.

Sam Houston State claimed the team title after firing a 292 in the third round to finish at 887 for the event, two strokes better than Southern Illinois in second place. Illinois State's Brian Anderson captured medalist honors with a one-stroke advantage over Sam Houston State's David Ward.

Shaw and Cox paced the Hilltoppers with 230 totals for the event. Senior Jared Topmiller followed close behind with a 231 total to tie for 35th place, one stroke ahead of senior John Mullendore's 232.

The Branson Creek Invitational marked the final tune-up for the Hilltoppers, who next travel to Niceville, Fla. to play in the Sun Belt Conference Championships (April 21-23). Following the SBC Championships, WKU will close out the 2003 spring season at Penn State's Rutherford Intercollegiate (April 25-26).
