Bowling Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky men's golf team found itself in fourth place following the first day of the Kauai Collegiate Cup in Princeville, Hawai'i with a score of 594 after two rounds thanks to the play of Robby Shaw (Fr., Louisville, Ky.) and Jared Topmiller (Sr., Central City, Ky.), who were tied for third.
Shaw and Topmiller finished with identical scores of 145 and are three strokes behind Eastern Michigan's Brad Pemberton, who fired rounds of 72 and 70 on the opening day. Shaw opened with a 72 in the opening round and followed that with a 73 in the day's second round. Topmiller opened with a 70 and closed with a 75.
As a team, the Hilltoppers fired a score of 298 in the opening 18 holes and finished with a score of 296. They trail leader Marquette, who had a two-round total of 583, by 11 strokes. Eastern Michigan and Iowa are tied for third with scores of 589.
