Ranco Santa Fe, Calif. - Senior Adam Cox finished in a tie for 21st place to lead the Western Kentucky University men's golf team to a 10th place finish at the 16th annual University of San Diego Invitational. The Hilltoppers carded their best score of the tournament in the final round, posting a 308 to finish at 956 for the tournament to earn a share of 10th place with Wyoming in the 16-team field.

Cox recovered from a first round 84 by firing a 75 and a 76 in the final two rounds, giving him top honors among the Hilltoppers as the only WKU golfer to place in the top 25. Freshman Robby Shaw was second on the team with a 240 total, highlighted by a 77 in the opening round. Senior John Mullendore recorded the Hilltoppers lowest round of the tournament, carding a 74 in the final round.

Utah captured the team championship after finishing with a 909 title, six strokes better than second-place Portland. The Pilots captured second place thanks to the play of medalist Mike McCabe, who finished with a one-over par 217 for the event.

The Hilltoppers return to action next week when they host their fourth annual Kauai Collegiate Cup in Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii, March 21-22, 2003.
