North Texas (10-3-1, 3-0-1 SBC) got on the board first in the 31st minute when Andrea Marak fired a shot past Western goalkeeper Amy Uhlman into the lower left corner of the net to give the Mean Green a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first allowed by the Lady Toppers (8-4-1, 3-0-1 SBC) in five matches. WKU responded just eight minutes later when Betsy Duncan came away from the pack in front of the net and snuck a shot past UNT goalie Briana Buchanan, evening the match at 1-1 heading into intermission.
Those would prove to be the only goals of the night. The Mean Green outshot Western 6-4 in the second half, with each team putting three shots on goal, but nothing got past either keeper. North Texas put the only shot on goal in the first overtime, but Uhlman was able to deflect the shot way, sending the match to a final ten minutes. Western provided the only scoring opportunity of the second overtime, but again came up empty handed as the teams settled for the 1-1 score.
Western led the shot total 17-12 for the match, with both teams putting eight shots on goal. Uhlman and Buchanan each posted seven saves in the match.
The Lady Toppers will return to action on Sunday, hosting two-time defending Sun Belt Conference champion Denver at 1 p.m. (CDT).
