BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University swimming and diving head coach Bill Powell announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters of intent Tuesday.
Rachel Buncher, a versatile swimmer from Lexington, Ky., will join the Lady Toppers next season. She hails from Lexington Catholic High School, where she holds school records in the 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
"Rachel has a great future ahead of her at Western Kentucky University," Powell said. "She will make a significant contribution to our program over the next four years."
Buncher was a member of the 2000 state championship and 2001 state runner-up teams at Lexington Catholic H.S., and was a state finalist in the 200 I.M., 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle from 2000-02. She also garnered accolades for her accomplishments as she was named all-region twice (2000-01).
The daughter of Mark and Cathy Buncher, Rachel holds a 3.5 GPA and is a member of the Beta Club and Spanish Club at Lexington Catholic H.S. She is also active in the Kentucky Youth Leadership Council.
Also joining the Lady Toppers next season is Louisville, Ky., product Meredith Mountjoy. She comes to the Hill from Ballard H.S. where she placed third in the 100 butterfly (58.34) and fourth in the 200 I.M. (2:07.65) at the Kentucky state high school meet.
"Meredith is a great addition to our team, " Powell said. "With the graduation of nine seniors this year, Meredith will be called upon to make an immediate impact on our program."
The daughter of Michael and Susan Mountjoy, Meredith holds a 3.6 GPA at Ballard H.S. and is looking at business as a probable major at Western Kentucky.
The Hilltoppers will welcome the addition of Tommy Pollock, who hails from Plant City H.S. in Plant City, Fla., where he is the owner of nine school records.
"We are excited about the addition of a swimmer with Tommy's potential," Powell said. "He obviously knows how to win and he will make an immediate impact on our program."
In 2001, Pollock was the state high school champion in the 100 freestyle and state runner-up in the 50 freestyle. He also has gained substantial recognition as he was named Hillsborough County Swimmer of the Year from 1999-2001.
The son of Robert and Tammi Deliquori, Tommy owns a 3.1 GPA at Plant City H.S.
