Murfreesboro, Tenn. - The Western Kentucky track and field teams competed in the Middle Tennessee Invitational on Saturday.
The men's team swept the meet, defeating Sun Belt Conference opponents MTSU and South Alabama, as well as Tennessee State and Tennessee-Chattanooga.
The men's team had five first-place finishers, three second-place finishers, and six third-place finishers. Placing first for the Hilltoppers were David Altmaier (So., Somerset, Ky.) in the 3,000-meter run (8:43.80), Jonathon Brown (So., Morganfield, Ky.) in the 55-meter dash (6.34), Craig Morehead (Fr., Connersville, Ind.) in the 35 lbs weight throw (40-00.75), Eigo Siimu (Fr., Viljandi, Estonia) in the pole vault (14-6) and Raigo Toompuu (Fr., Haapsalu, Estonia) in the shot put (51-1.5).
The Lady Toppers were one and three on the day, defeating conference opponent South Alabama. Scoring first-place for the women were Misty Hair (So., Liberty, Ky.) in the 20 lbs weight throw (41-1) and Jill Shannon (Fr., Jordantown, Northern Ireland) in the 3,000-meter run (10:06.19). Western Kentucky assistant coach Michelle Murphy Scott ran the women's one mile unattached and won the event in a time of 5:02.23.
The WKU track and field teams are idle until Feb. 1-2, when they travel to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Indiana Invitational.
