Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky swimming coach Bill Powell has signed two more men's swimmers for the 2001-02 season.
Paul Graves will join the Hilltoppers after a stellar prep career at Atherton high School in Louisville, Ky. Graves was a KHSAA state qualifier all four years of high school and was a three-time team captain. He was a 2001 Short Course Kentucky state champion in the 400 Individual Medley, as well as a short course meter state record holder in the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke. Graves comes from a strong swimming family. His mother, Mary Graves, was a member of the first club swimming team at Western, and his uncle was an NCAA champion while swimming at Southern California.
Andy Ray will come to the Hill as a diver from St. Joseph, Mich. where he qualified for the Michigan state swimming and diving meet all four years at St. Joseph High School. He was an all-conference and all-state selection both his junior and senior years, compiling an undefeated dual-meet season as a senior. Ray will be the second member of his family to be coached by Powell. His father, Dean Ray, swam on Powell's first high school team in 1960.
