BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky women's golf coach Chuck Eison has announced the signing of two outstanding high school seniors who will play for the Lady Toppers in the 2001-2002 season.
Jennifer Taylor, a product of Indian Springs, Ohio, and Leslie Adams, a native of Greenville, Ky., both recently signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on the Hill.
"We're very, very pleased with both of these young women," Eison said. "Both of these girls will greatly contribute to our program."
Taylor, the daughter of John and Kim Taylor, was a four-year player at Fairfield High School where she held a stroke average of 77 during an outstanding senior campaign. Taylor, who holds the school record for the lowest nine-hole score (34), was a Greater Miami County First-Team and Ohio Southwest District Second-Team selection and was rated the top women's golfer by the Cincinnati Enquirer.
She also excelled in the classroom, being named to the Greater Miami Conference All-Academic Team in 2001.
"Jennifer has an inner desire and fire that you don't see that often," Eison said.
Adams, the daughter of Mark and Shari Adams, was the first athlete from Muhlenberg South High School to win an individual regional championship, shooting a six-over 78 last fall to claim the title at Madisonville Country Club. Adams made three consecutive trips to the state tournament, finishing as high as 41st as a junior in 1999.
"Leslie really has a good head on her shoulders," Eison said. "She and Jennifer are very strong players, both mentally and physically."
Adams and Taylor will join a young Lady Topper squad, which finished eighth at the 2001 Sun Belt Conference Championships in Roanoke, Texas. In the spring campaign, Western grabbed two top-5 finishes, including a second-place showing at the Butler/IUPUI Invitational April 1-3. Western returns three juniors and three sophomores, with every player who saw action in the spring returning for the 2001-2002 season.
"Jennifer and Leslie will bring some competition into the team next year," Eison said. "It fills out the team very nicely."
