Bowling Green, Ky. - Two Western Kentucky student-athletes have been named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District first teams for fall and winter sports.
Hilltopper soccer player Brandon Thompson (Jr., Owensboro, Ky.) and Lady Topper swimmer Brandi Carey (Jr., Lexington, Ky.) were both first team district IV selections. The voting is done by Sports Information Director in each region. Thompson carries a 3.91 Grade Point Average while majoring in electrical engineering. He also received honorable mention for the NSCAA All-East Region Scholar Athlete team in February.
Carey, who helped lead the Lady Toppers to a Sun Belt Conference Championship last month, was selected to the first team with a 3.96 GPA while majoring in history. With their first team selections, both will appear on the ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Fall/Winter teams.
