Little Rock, Ark. - The Western Kentucky women's swimming team won four of the six events on the first day of the inaugural Sun Belt Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, Friday.
WKU leads the team scoring with a 268.5, ahead of New Mexico State (211), North Texas (186.5), Denver (173) and Arkansas-Little Rock (65). The Lady Toppers set the tone early, as the team of Brandi Beckwith-Carey (Jr., Lexington, Ky.), Char Janes (Sr., Kingwood, Texas), Sydney Mountford (Jr., Lexington, Ky.) and Megan Zerhusen (Jr., Georgetown, Ky.) won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.88, their fastest time of the season.
Mountford also won the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 5:02.22, while Beckwith-Carey took the 200 Individual Medley in a season-best 2:04.23. Michelle Lynch (Sr., The Colony, Texas) continued the trend with a season-best score of 265.35 to win the one-meter dive.
The meet continues today with two sessions at the Donaghey Aquatics Center on the UALR Campus, with the event concluding on Saturday (Feb. 17).
