Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University's swimming teams continued their success with victories over Butler and Louisania Saturday (Nov. 3) at the Preston Center at WKU.
The women, off to an excellent start broke three Preston Center pool records and ended with scores of 153-90 over Butler and 148-90 atop Louisiana. Brandi Carey, alone, broke two Preston Center Pool records beating her own 200 Freestyle of 1:52.1 with 1:49.5 and the 100 Freestyle with 52.58. Freshman, Alexis Rieck finished her first collegiate meet a triple-winner, ending on top in the 100 Backstroke, 200 IM, and 100 Butterfly. Rieck finished first in the Butterfly and the IM only having approximately 10 mins of rest. The women's Frestyle Relay team consisting of seniors, Sydney Mountford, Julia VanAntwerp, Megan Zerhusen, and Brandi Carey broke the Preston Center pool record of 3:32.3 held by Ball State with their 3:32.19.
Coach Bill Powell says, "I can't say enough about the women. They have started the season great, work hard in practice and have excellent attitudes everyday."
The men ended the meet scoring over Butler and Louisiana 152-91 and 147-67. Freshman,Greg Strickler ended with two wins in the 200 IM and the 200 Backstroke while sophomore, Dean Cheek finished the 1000 Freestyle with a season best 9:46.7.
The Western Swim teams will continue their seasons next Friday (Nov. 9) in West Point, Ny at the U.S. Military Academy Invitational.
