West Point, Ny. - The Western Kentucky University swimming teams finished on top with 609.5 points at the U.S. Military Academy Invitational held on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 9-10).
The women's team won the tournament scoring 354.5 and beating U.S. Military Academy (192), Fordham(154.5), and St. John's (149). The Toppers completed 15 of 18 events, including all four relays, in first place. Individually, Brandi Carey (Sr., Versailles, Ky.) won the 200 IM, 400 IM, and the 200 yard Backstroke, setting a 15-year old West Point pool record in the 200 IM.
The men finished in second place under St. John's (293) with 255 points, and beating U.S. Military Adacemy (194) and Fordham (103) after 19 events. Captain's David Tucker (Sr., Dicator, Ala.) won the 50 Yard Freestyle, Gord Veldman (Jr., Kingster, Ontario) won the 100 Yard Backstroke and the team took three of four relays.
The WKU Swim Teams will compete again next weekend at home against Ball State.
