2016 (Jr.) | 14/14: Overstreet continued his strong play at defensive end for the Hilltoppers as a junior, starting another 14 games and extending his career start streak to 35 games. He tallied 34 tackles (15 solo) on the season with 8.5 tackles for loss and four sacks, tied for second-most among defensive linemen. Overstreet’s seven quarterback hurries also tied for second on the school’s single-season FBS record for hurries forced in a season. As he did in his freshman campaign, Overstreet’s biggest game came in the bowl game where he racked up eight tackles, two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks against Memphis. Three of his seven hurries came against Old Dominion, and he added two more against LA Tech in the Conference USA Championship Game. Overstreet forced at least a half-tackle for loss in eight games and five of the first seven.
2015 (So.) | 14/14: Overstreet carried over his strong true freshman season to a solid sophomore campaign, starting all 14 games at defensive end for the Hilltoppers, tallying 48 tackles (31 solo) and nine tackles for loss, both the most among defensive linemen. Overstreet also tallied a pair of sacks on the year, both against Marshall. Overstreet had 38 tackles on rushing plays, the most among all defensive linemen. He also forced one fumble in the Marshall game and added two hurries and one pass breakup at Indiana.
2014 (Fr.) | 9/7: Overstreet was the only true freshman to start for the Hilltoppers in 2014 on either side of the ball as he started the final seven games of the season. He finished the season with 31 tackles (21 solo), 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He tallied at least four tackles in six of the nine games he appeared in, with multiple tackles in seven straight. He had a career-high five tackles (four solo stops,) in a win over UTEP and in the bowl game where he was named the Defensive Player of the Game with five tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a pair of sacks. Overstreet registered his first career tackle for loss in a win over UTSA. He broke up a pass and made four tackles vs. No. 19 Marshall. In his seven starts, WKU was 5-2.
HS/Misc.: Derik Overstreet prepped at Paducah Tilghman High School where he was coached by coach Randy Wyatt. Overstreet was an Associated Press first-team All-State performer as well as the Kentucky Football Coaches Association District Player of the Year. Overstreet also picked up first-team All-Western Kentucky Conference honors and was a `Best of the Bluegrass’ All-Star as well as a KY/TN Border Bowl All-Star. In 2013, Overstreet tallied 130 total tackles including 20 sacks, pushing his career totals to 287 tackles and 38 sacks. Scout.com, Rivals.com, and 247Sports.com rated him as a two-star prospect while 247Sports.com had him as the No. 16 prospect in the state of Kentucky.
