Bobby Thomas enters his second season on the Hilltopper strength and conditioning staff under the director of head football strength and conditioning coach Jason Veltkamp. Thomas joined the staff in March 2018.
Prior to coming to The Hill, Thomas spent two seasons at Fresno State as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. His connection to Veltkamp dates back to their time together on staff at NC State as an assistant strength coach, working under Veltkamp and with current WKU assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Clayton White, for the 2015 season.
Thomas was a four-year letterman at Humboldt State (2006-09) where he graduated with his degree in Kinesiology Teaching/Coaching. Following his playing career he started as a student assistant strength coach under the direction of Drew Petersen. After HSU, Thomas became a graduate assistant strength coach at the University of South Dakota.
While at USD, he worked directly with football, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and softball as well as assisted with men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball. Thomas graduated from South Dakota with a M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies.
The Lancaster, Calif., native spent time as an intern with the University of Southern California football team during the summer of 2012 under the direction of Aaron Ausmus and also served as an intern at Stanford during the 2014 season where he worked with football as well as wrestling, men’s gymnastics, men’s Volleyball and women’s dive under the direction of Shannon Turley.
Thomas is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is also a certified Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting. Thomas was honored following his senior season at Humboldt State as an NSCA Strength and Conditioning All-American.
Thomas and his wife, the former Katie Wilder, have one daughter, Harley.
