2021 (g-Sr.) | 14/4: Cofield played in all 14 games for the Hilltoppers while making four starts in his lone season with the squad. He led the team with four rushing touchdowns while ranking second on the squad with 373 rushing yards on 81 carries (4.6 average) while also adding 22 catches for 176 yards (8.0 average) in the receiving game. Cofield ranked first among C-USA running backs with a 71.5 run blocking grade by PFF. He also ranked seventh among C-USA running backs with an 85.6 fumble grade by PFF and 18th among C-USA running backs who played at least 90 snaps with a 72.2 offensive grade by PFF.
Before WKU: Cofield went to North Dakota State, where he won three consecutive FCS National Championships (2019, 2018 and 2017) after redshirting his first year in Fargo in 2016. Played 38 career games for the Bison, rushing 300 times for 1,542 yards (5.1 average) and 19 touchdowns. Boasts single-game career-highs of 25 rushes, 104 yards and two touchdowns. In six games as a freshman in 2017, rushed 43 times for 163 yards (3.8 average) with one touchdown. In 15 games as a sophomore in 2018, rushed 82 times for 563 yards and six touchdowns. In 16 games as a junior in 2019, rushed 167 times for 813 yards and 12 touchdowns, while also making 16 receptions for 103 yards and one score, then was named All-MVFC Honorable Mention.
HS/Misc.: Cofield was a three-year starter who helped nationally-ranked Blue Springs South to a 14-0 record and Class 6 State Championship under head coach Greg Oder. He ran for 149 yards and three touchdowns in the title game and made a 67-yard touchdown catch, while also producing nine tackles and three sacks on the defensive side of the ball. Was a 2015 All-State First Team linebacker and named Defensive Player of the Year by the Missouri Football Coaches Association. Was a 2015 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Missouri Football First Team linebacker and named Defensive Player of the Year. Also earned First Team All-Conference, All-District and All-Metro honors. Named Suburban Big 7 Defensive Player of the Year. Finished his senior year with 96 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, nine sacks and 14 quarterback hurries. Four-year letterwinner in track with best times of 11.1 seconds in the 100 meters and 22.7 seconds in the 200 meters. Also played center field for KC Elite showcase baseball. His father, Tim, played four years in the NFL with the Chiefs, Jets and Bills, and was a three-time CFL All-Star in six years with Calgary, Hamilton, Memphis and Toronto.
