ABOUT THE TOPS
- Last time out the Hilltoppers competed in the Tyson Invitational, Feb. 13-14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
- Kinley Kunkel logged a PR in the women's 3000 meter race on Saturday afternoon with a time of 9:39.87, finishing in 11th.
- Her time is over five seconds faster than her previous PR of 9:46 set at the Vanderbilt Invitational in January.
- Kunkel now holds the fourth best mark in WKU Indoor Track and Field history.
- Ajla Basic became the second Hilltopper to set a PR on Friday with a 19.71 meter toss in the weight throw, beating her previous record of 19.40 meters.
- Basic's time stands at No. 2 in WKU indoor history, breaking the previous record of 19.69 meters set back in 2017 by Jenessa Jackson.
- Kinley Kunkel set a PR for the second straight day on Saturday morning, this time in the 5000 with a time of 16:45.08 to win the event.
- Kunkel finished over nine seconds ahead of the second place finisher on Saturday.
- Her time of 16:45.08 stands at No. 5 in WKU indoor history, beating out Savannah Heckman's 16:45.61 finish back in 2022.
- Trevor Hudnall also set a personal best on Saturday in the men's mile with a time of 4:09.70, good for 13th place. Hudnall beat his previous best of 4:09.88 set at the Lenny Lyles Invitational back in January.
MEET HISTORY
- The 2026 CUSA Indoor Championships mark the third consecutive year the event has been held at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
- Last season at the meet, Kameron Horton took home two medals, finishing second in the men's 60-meter dash and third in the men's 200-meter dash.
- Horton also broke the school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.66 in the preliminary round of the event.
- Last season Liberty took home the women's title with 145 points. The men's championship was won by Kennesaw State in their first year in the league.
STACKING UP AGAINST THE COMPETITION
- Sam Crenshaw currently holds the top-mark in the pole vault in CUSA after his vault of 5.27 meters (17-03.5) at the Lenny Lyles Invitational on January 30th.
- In the women's pole vault Sophia Roskoski leads the league in the pole vault with a vault of 4.17 meters (13-08.25) also set at the Lenny Lyles Invitational.
- WKU's DMR team of Parker Smith, Ben Dunkle, Balcom, and Hudnall set a mark of 10:07.18 at the Crossroads of America Invitational which stands as the top mark in the league.
- Sterling Weldon currently ranks No. 2 in CUSA in the long jump with a mark of 7.50 meters (24-07.25).
- Basic has the second best mark in the weight throw this season of 19.71 meters (64-08) which she set last time out at the Tyson Invitational.
- Horton currently holds the third best mark in the 200 in CUSA this season with a time of 21.13 set at the Crossroads of America Invitational.
- Jayla Gilbert holds the fourth best mark in the league in the shot put with a throw of 14.77 meters (48-05.5) which she set at the Vanderbilt Invitational.
- Kunkel holds a top-five mark in the league in the 5000 with a time of 16:45.08.
EVENT BREAKDOWN
- Combined events will kick-off action both Friday and Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. CT Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
- On Friday, field events start with the women's pole vault slated for noon CT, followed by the women's weight throw and long jump.
- The men's pole vault is set to run at 4 p.m. The men's weight throw will close out field events on Friday at 5 p.m.
- Track action on Friday starts with the mile trials at 2 p.m. and action wraps up with the DMR at 6:20 and 6:40.
- Saturday morning, field events start at 11 a.m. CT with the women's shot put, men's triple jump, and women's high jump.
- The final field events of the meet will get underway at 2 p.m. with the men's shot put and high jump and the women's triple jump.
- Saturday track events will start like Friday did with the mile set for 1 p.m. followed by the 60-meter hurdles.
- The two-day meet in Lynchburg will commence with the 4x400 relays at 3:50 and 4:15 p.m. with awards following at 4:40 p.m.
