Freshman Makenna Egan led the team with two goals on three shots. She also added an assist. Three more Hilltoppers scored in the match in Georgia Liapis, Danielle Lewin, and Alaina Nugier. The win marks the fifth for WKU over Union.
HOW IT HAPPENED
WKU and Union went back and forth for the first 18 minutes before Georgia Liapis opened up the scoring with her fourth of the season. After charting the assist on the first goal, Makenna Egan gave WKU a 2-0 lead in the match. The Bulldogs would cut the deficit to one in the 34th minute. The Tops would take the one goal, 2-1 lead into the break.
In the first half, Ashton Lynam led the team with three shots and one on goal. Five other Hilltoppers recorded a shot in the first 45 minutes, highlighted by Liapis' and Egan's goals. The Bulldogs managed three shots in the period with two on goal.
In the second half, the Hilltoppers made adjustments that proved successful. Egan managed her second of the night in the 60th minute. That was followed by Danielle Lewin's second goal as a Hilltopper. Alaina Nugier became the third Hilltopper to score, managing a critical time goal in the 89th minute of the match, putting the finishing touches on a 5-1 win over Union.

QUOTABLE
On the second half performance, head coach Jason Neidell said "We challenged the team at halftime to come out with more energy and focus. In the second half I thought we did exactly that and played a really strong half."
On the variety of scoring, Neidell said "It was nice to see some of our players who have been hunting for goals to get on the board tonight."

WKU will head south for a two-game road trip. The Hilltoppers will travel to Birmingham on Thursday, Sept. 4 for a 7 p.m. match against UAB. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
