The meet marked a special occasion as WKU retired the third jersey in the history of the track and field program. Gayle Harris Watkins received all-American honors as a senior in 1979. Her name will now forever stand at the front of the Charles M. Ruter Track and Field Complex.
WKU Athletics also recognized six seniors for their dedication to the track and field program. Alli Arnett, Kaison Barton, Nick Fornoff, Rachel Payne, Aitana Safont Falomir, and Luke Stegman were honored for their dedication to the Hilltopper Track and Field program.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
In the men's discus LeAndre Bolen had a career day, setting a new personal best throw in the event with a mark of 48.77 meters, good enough for second place. Luke Stegman, who was recognized for senior day, took first with a 49.64 meter toss.
Kennedy Coradini managed a pair of personal bests in both the discus throw and javelin throw. In both events she earned a second place finish.
In the jumping ranks, JonJon Hunter won the men's triple jump with a mark of 15 meters. Taurian Smith followed behind in second place. In the women's pole vault, Sophia Roskoski took first place. She was followed up by Natalie Papes who set a new personal mark in the event.Â
On the track, in the women's 1500, Kinley Kunkel claimed a first place finish. In the men's event a trio of Hilltoppers finished in front, led by Tyler Pfefferkorn. In the men's 800 three more Hilltoppers headlined the podium in the likes of the winner Trevor Hudnall followed by Wade Balcom and Hollis Johnson. In the women's 800, Arielle Phillips set a new personal best, finishing in 2:27.
In the men's 100, Kameron Horton set a new record in the event with a mark of 10.40. In the women's 100, Haley Zell and Jas Hampton both set new personal bests with Zell winning the event in 12.26. In the women's 100m hurdles, Madison Rabe claimed the victory with a personal best mark of 14.58. Gianna Huerta also set a PR with a mark of 14.87.
NOTABLESÂ
- In total, 10 Hilltoppers finished up with a new personal best with two on the men's side and eight on the women's.
- Kameron Horton had a career day with a personal record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.40.
- Madison Rabe set a new personal best in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.58. Gianna Huerta also set a PR in the event.
- In the women's 100-meter dash, Haley Zell set a new personal best mark, clocking in at 12.26, good enough for the win.
- LeAndre Bolen took home second place in the men's discus, setting a new PR with a mark of 48.77 meters.
- Kennedy Coradini managed a new personal best in the javelin throw with a toss of 34.75 meters, good for second place.
- She also added a personal best mark in the discus with a mark of 31.47 meters, also taking second in that event.
- In the women's pole vault Natalie Papes set a new PR with a vault of 3.67 meters. She would finish the day up in second place.
WKU will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Tennessee Invite slated to run Friday and Saturday, April 4-5. The meet will be hosted by the University of Tennessee.
