The Hilltoppers got on the board in the top of the first, only the sixth time they've done so this season. Lead-off hitter Kendle White laid a bunt down the first base line to open the game with a single.
Senior catcher Randi Drinnon walked to put White on second, when sophomore infielder Annie White doubled to right center to bring White home.
First-year right-hander Erica Houge kept the Miners off the board until the fourth inning when UTEP hit two two-run home runs to go up 4-2.

- WKU's all-time record against UTEP shifts to 12-6 and 5-4 when playing in El Paso.
