ABOUT THE TOPSÂ Â
- This weekend marks the first outdoor competition for WKU this season. The Tops are coming off a two-week break, previously competing in the 2025 Conference USA Indoor Championships.Â
- At the CUSA Championships, Kameron Horton managed a banner weekend when the results were all tallied. Â
- Horton set a new school record in the 60-meter dash with a mark of 6.66. He also set the second best mark in the history of the program in the 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 7.89.Â
- Horton rounded out his stellar meet with a third place finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 20.95.Â
- Brunel Desinor set a personal best in the 400 with a time of 47.82, good for fourth place. Desinor was tabbed as the 2024 CUSA Male Newcomer of the Year, marking the first time a Hilltopper has earned that honor.Â
- The Hilltoppers also shined brightly in field events throughout the indoor campaign, particularly the men's pole vault where freshman Sam Crenshaw set a new program record in the vault with a 5.10-meter jump back in January.Â
- In the distance ranks, Kinley Kunkel set a personal best in both the 3000 and 5000 while also managing a meet record at the Bulldog Invite on Feb. 14.Â
- Last outdoor season, three Hilltoppers found their way to the NCAA Outdoor East Regionals in Lexington in the likes of Horton, Ajla Basic, and all-American Katie Isenbarger.Â
- At the 2024 CUSA Outdoor Championships a total of five Hilltoppers found themselves on the podium when the meet concluded. Of those five, four are returning this season in Basic (hammer), Kaison Barton (shot put/hammer), Desinor (sprints), and Devon Rogers (javelin).Â
EVENT BREAKDOWNÂ
Action Friday will get underway with the women's heptathlon slated to start at 12:30 p.m. Track events Friday will kick off with the women's 100 hurdles at 4 p.m. The final field event of the day on Friday is the men's triple jump scheduled for 5 p.m. On Saturday, the heptathlon will kick things off at 9:30 a.m. The final track event, the 1,600-meter relays, will close out the meet.Â
MEET HISTORYÂ
- The 2025 meet marks the eighth year that Murray State has hosted a March meet dating back to 2016, marking every year with the exception of the 2019-20 season that was canceled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.Â
- The meet will be held at Roy Stewart Stadium which is also the home of the Racer Football team (NCAA I-AA).Â
- Prior to the construction of the Charles M. Ruter Track and Field Complex, the Hilltoppers used to compete at a track that was formerly around Feix Field. Â
SCOUTING THE FIELDÂ
- The Hilltoppers compete against the likes of several other NCAA DI programs during the two-day meet.Â
- The list of DI competitors includes host Murray State, SIU-Edwardsville, Saint Louis, and UT Martin.Â
- Other schools include Bethel (Tenn.), Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.), Oakland City (Ind.), Tennessee Stout, and Union (Ky.).Â
