There were a total of 11 new personal records in track events for WKU and two in field events. WKU also notched 11 top-five finishers in the day's events with Kinley Kunkel and Sam Crenshaw claiming first place in their respective events.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
On the track, the Hilltoppers had a stellar day with multiple personal records and top-finishers. Kunkel highlighted the Tops on the track with her PR in the women's 3000 meter race where she took first, finishing in 10:09. Addie Frisch managed a PR in the women's 800 finishing in 2:18 good for a fifth place finish.
Kameron Horton continues to have a strong indoor campaign as he notched a third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. He also added a fourth place finish in the 60-meter dash final. Sanaa Washington set a PR in the women's 200 meter dash and Morgan Moore set one in the women's 400. In the men's 400, Brunel Desinor claimed a top-five finish finishing in 48.83.
In field events, the vaulters continued to shine. Sam Crenshaw once again took first in the men's event while Sophia Roskoski claimed a second place finish in the women's event, finishing first among collegiate competitors. Luke Stegman led WKU in the ring with a fifth place finish in the men's weight throw and a sixth place finish in the men's shot put.
NOTABLESÂ
- In total, 13 Hilltoppers finished with a new personal best after all the events of the day were tallied.
- Sophia Roskoski managed a second place finish in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.81 meters. Her mark was first among collegiate competitors.
- In the distance ranks, seven Hilltoppers set personal bests highlighted by Kinley Kunkel's first place finish in the women's 3000. A new PR of 10:09.Â
- In the men's mile a pair of freshmen, Tyler Pfefferkorn and Parker Smith set new personal bests. Pfefferkorn finished in 4:25 while Smith wrapped up in 4:27.
- Mary Dye set a new PR in the women's mile, finishing in 5:17, good for 14th place.
- In the men's 3000-meter run Bowling Green native Michael House led the way for WKU with a PR of 8:59, good for 12th place.
- Luke Stegman set a new PR in the men's weight throw. His 17.58 meter throw earned him a fifth place finish.
- For the third time this season, Sam Crenshaw took first place in the men's pole vault followed up by Jackson Tweed who set a PR with a 4.40 meter jump.
- Luke Stegman had a career day in the ring with a PR in the men's weight throw. His throw of 17.58 meters was good enough for a fifth place finish to lead WKU.
QUOTABLE
On the performance, interim head coach Lee Wood said "I thought the team had a productive day in competition after a tough week for them. We had several athletes with PR's and heading in the right direction as we head back to Brimingham next weekend."
NEXT UP
WKU will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15 at the Samford Bulldog Invite in Birmingham, Ala. This will be the Tops' final meet before CUSA Championships.
