DALLAS — Freshman guard Armelo Boone has been named Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Boone helped WKU improve to 4-0 with a 97-67 win over Bethel (Tenn.) last Tuesday, Nov. 18 at E.A. Diddle Arena. The Lexington, Kentucky native posted 12 points on 45.5% (5-of-11) shooting with four steals, three rebounds and one assist in 15 minutes off the bench. WKU was plus-9 when Boone was on the floor.
Through four games, Boone is averaging 9.8 points on 43.6% shooting with 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and a CUSA-best 3.0 steals per contest. He is tied for the league lead with 12 total steals this season. He's recorded three or more steals in three of the four games so far, including four steals in the season opener against Tennessee Tech, becoming the first WKU freshman with four or more steals in a game in their collegiate debut.
Boone and the Hilltoppers play in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in The Bahamas this week. WKU is slated for three games in three days in the eight-team tournament, starting on Wednesday, Nov. 26, against Vanderbilt. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT at Imperial Arena and the game will air nationally on ESPN. The Hilltoppers will play South Florida or VCU on Thursday, Nov. 27, depending on Wednesday's outcome.
