DALLAS – Four student athletes from WKU Soccer and head coach Jason Neidell have earned All-CUSA honors, the league office announced Friday morning.
Georgia Liapis was named the league's Midfielder of the Year, Makenna Egan was named Freshman of the Year, and head coach Jason Neidell was named Coach of the Year. Liapis was also named First Team All-CUSA. Egan was named to both Second Team All-CUSA and the All-Freshman Team.
Two more Hilltoppers also earned All-CUSA honors. Abby Wiedermann with First Team All-CUSA and Maddie Davis was named Second Team All-CUSA.
For Liapis, this marks her first All-CUSA honors since coming to WKU in 2023. Liapis is the center of the second highest scoring offense in Conference USA (1.81 goals per game). Liapis leads the team in goals (nine), shots (41), points (20), and shots on goal (20). She is third in points in CUSA, tied-second in goals, and is the only midfielder in the top five in scoring.
Liapis has twice been named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week this season (Sept. 23, Oct. 27) and also was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week on Oct. 15. Liapis scored three straight goals against Rio Grande for her first career hat-trick and the first for WKU since 2018. The junior from Plainfield, Ill. has also scored the game-winning goal twice. She is tied-ninth for most goals in a single season for WKU and has scored the most since 2019.
Egan is the first player in WKU Soccer History to earn the distinction of conference freshman of the year.
Egan came to The Hill from Palm Harbor, Fla. and made an immediate impact for WKU and across the league. Egan is second on the team in goals scored (five), second in shots (28), first in assists (four), and third in minutes (1,199) and first among freshmen in all categories. She is tied first among freshmen in CUSA in goals scored and third in CUSA in league play goals (three) and has scored the game-winning goal in two matches.
Egan was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 7 following her matches against La Tech and Sam Houston. Egan scored the game-winning goal against La Tech and assisted in the game-winning goal against Sam Houston.
A member of the 2024 CUSA All-Freshman Team, Wiedermann has been a crucial part of a defensive front that boasts the lowest goals allowed average in CUSA (0.813). She currently leads the team in minutes (1,327) and has logged every minute in CUSA play. In the home opener against Jackson State, Wiedermann scored the game-winning goal. She has been part of a defensive unit with four shutouts in CUSA play. Wiedermann is a two-time CUSA Defender of the Week (Aug. 27, Oct. 7).
In goal, Davis has led WKU to the lowest goals against average in CUSA (0.800). She holds the best save percentage in CUSA (0.831), third in saves per game (3.77), and third in shutouts (five). Davis has started in every conference match for WKU, earning six wins with no losses in the process. Davis has four shutouts in league play and three of the four were on the road. One of those being WKU's 1-0 win over Sam Houston, where she managed six saves. Davis was named Conference USA's Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 7. She was also named Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week Honorable Mention on Oct. 7.
Neidell has led WKU to its best conference record in program history (0.875), leading the Hilltoppers to a 6-0-2 mark in league play, turning around a team that went 3-8-5 in 2024 and won only one CUSA match. In addition, Neidell has guided a team picked ninth in the preseason poll to a CUSA Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference championship.
Neidell's Hilltoppers boast the second highest scoring average in CUSA (1.813) and the best scoring defense in CUSA (0.813). WKU is the only CUSA team to go 4-0 on the road in league play. Three of the four wins were shutout wins. WKU's 4-0 record in CUSA road matches is their best since joining the league in 2014 and marked the first undefeated conference road record since 2009 and their first undefeated CUSA record since 2020-21. Their nine total wins (9-4-3) mark the most since 2021.
The distinction is the fourth for Neidell in his 25 year tenure as head coach of the program. This marks the second CUSA Coach of the Year honor for Neidell (2016).
The Hilltoppers will play in the Conference USA Tournament starting Sunday, Nov. 2. No. 1 seeded WKU will take on No. 8 seed Missouri State at 3:30 p.m. CT in Lynchburg, Va.
