BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Two WKU Football players earned Conference USA weekly awards following the team's 28-27 overtime victory at Louisiana Tech on Tuesday, the league announced Monday.
Quarterback Rodney Tisdale Jr. was named the CUSA Freshman of the Week and defensive end Koron Hayward was named the CUSA Special Teams Player of the Week. The win improved WKU to 6-2 overall – becoming bowl eligible for the seventh time in seven seasons under Head Coach Tyson Helton – and 4-1 in CUSA play this fall.
The two CUSA weekly awards brings WKU's total for the season to 13. It is the third CUSA Freshman of the Week award for the Hilltoppers – running back Marvis Parrish received the recognition twice before – and the second CUSA Special Teams Player of the Week award the program has received, with the other going to punter Cole Maynard. In addition to those recognitions, quarterback Maverick McIvor has claimed the CUSA Offensive Player of the Week award three times, running back La'Vell Wright has been named the league's Offensive Player of the Week once, left guard Laurence Seymore has been named CUSA Offensive Lineman of the Week twice and Marshall Jackson received the nod once, and defensive back Jaylen Lewis has been named the CUSA Defensive Player of the Week once.
Tisdale – in the first start of his college career – posted 300 yards of offense in the 28-27 overtime road win over Louisiana Tech. He threw for 227 yards and a touchdown on 21-of-34 passing and rushed for a game-high 73 yards on 12 attempts. Tisdale completed passes to nine different receivers as the Hilltoppers put up 340 yards in the win. Tisdale finished off the win by completing a pass to Moussa Barry for the game-winning two-point conversion.
Hayward helped the Hilltoppers get to overtime by blocking the potential game-winning kick as time expired in regulation. Hayward added four tackles in the victory as well.
The Hilltoppers will now return to Saturday games, starting with the Nov. 1 Homecoming game against New Mexico State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT at Houchens-Smith Stadium and the game will be streamed on ESPN+. Tickets to the game can be purchased HERE.
