ABOUT THE LADY TOPPERS
- WKU is 1-0 after a 6-1 victory over EKU in the season opener on Thursday at the Warren County Tennis Facility. The Lady Toppers were scheduled to play on Sunday, Jan. 19, at Vanderbilt, but the match was postponed until March 16 due to inclement weather.
- The Lady Toppers look to start the season with back-to-back wins for the first time since 2022, when they reeled off five consecutive wins to start the year.
- The duos of Sofia Blanco/Rachel Hermanova and Mia Miranda/Emily Schut are 1-0 in doubles play this season.
- Hermanova, Blanco, Sunskrithi Damera, Mariana Zegada and Emily Schut all enter with 1-0 records in singles play this season.
- Hermanova enters Sunday's match with a program-record 50 singles wins in her WKU career, while Blanco sits in third – three wins shy from being tied for second – in the category with 41 singles wins.
- Blanco is second in program history in career doubles wins with 39 entering Sunday's match, while Mariana Zegada enters in fifth place in program history in the category with 32 career doubles wins and is one away from being tied for fourth all-time in program history.
- Head Coach Greg Davis is now 323-182 all-time as a college head coach, which includes 64 wins with the Lady Toppers. He entered the season ranked 29th in total wins and 36th in winning percentage among active Division I women's tennis head coaches with at least five years as a Division I head coach.
QUOTABLE
- "We had a really difficult match with SEMO last year. It was very close at our place. They've got a tremendous new coach in Coach (Steve) Brooks coming over from Tennessee State. He's been to the NCAA Tournament before in his career, so he knows how to win and put a team together. This isn't a team that we're going to take lightly by any stretch of the imagination. They're a very deep and talented team." – WKU Women's Tennis Head Coach Greg Davis, on the match against SEMO on Friday.
SERIES INFORMATION
- WKU holds a 4-2 lead in the series after defeating the Redhawks 5-2 last season in Bowling Green. That season's meeting was the first since the 2014 season.
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
- SEMO enters Friday's match 0-2 overall, with losses to Texas State and No. 4 Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Jan. 18.
- The Redhawks were picked second in the 2025 Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll behind SIUE.
- SEMO is reigning back-to-back regular-season OVC champions, and also claimed the title in 2021 as well. The Redhawks fell in the OVC Tournament finals to SIUE last season. SEMO made appearances in the NCAA Tournament after winning the OVC Tournament title in 2022 and 2023.
- The Redhawks are coached by Steve Brooks, who is in his first season leading the program.
