BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Women's Tennis has been awarded the United State Tennis Association Collegiate Community Hub grant.
"We are very appreciative of this grant from the USTA," said WKU Women's Tennis Head Coach Greg Davis. "The grant allows us to keep the courts open for public use as well as a practice facility for both the WKU Tennis team and WKU Club Tennis. We have seen an increase in USTA events already and we are looking forward to helping grow the sport with additional activities in the future."
The USTA's Collegiate Community Hub initiative, which launched in 2021, is designed to encourage colleges and universities to open their varsity tennis facilities to the public. The grant funds are intended to assist with some of the increased costs associated with operating a public facility. With the $8,000 awarded, WKU plans to make repairs to courts and the facility at the WKU Tennis Complex, which is used for USTA tournaments, intramural tennis and more, in addition to being a home for the Lady Topper Tennis program.
"The Collegiate Community Hub program aims to increase the number of high-quality tennis courts that are available to communities across the country, which is a vital part of the continued growth of tennis," said Tracy Davies, General Manager, USA Tennis, USTA. "Not only does this initiative benefit the general public, but also creates revenue-generating and community-building opportunities for collegiate tennis programs."
Since 2021, more than 75 colleges or universities have launched Community Hubs, spanning all three NCAA divisions, as well as NAIA and junior colleges. Through this initiative, more than 600 new tennis courts have become available to the public, impacting an estimated 15,000 tennis players across the country.
The Lady Toppers finished the 2026 season with an 11-14 record, marking the fifth straight season the program has reached double-digit wins. It is the second time in program history WKU Women's Tennis has accomplished that, also doing so between the 2009-13 seasons. The Lady Toppers have won 73 matches over the last five seasons, which is the highest win total over a five-year period in program history.
