The Hilltoppers (2-3-0) got off to a rough start, giving up three goals in the first half, but recovered to shut out Dayton (4-2-0) in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Flyers struck first in the 15th minute and then scored the second goal of the day just 28 seconds later. Dayton netted the final goal in the 28th minute.
In the second half, WKU regrouped and held the Flyers scoreless in the final 45 minutes. In the 75th minute, Dayton was rewarded a penalty kick but Maddie Davis made the save to keep it 3-0.
NOTABLES
- Goalkeeper Maddie Davis finished with six saves, including a stop on a penalty kick from Dayton in the second half. It was her second straight games with six saves.
- Olivia Cooke led WKU in shots with four in the match. Her best look of the night came early in the second half when she fired a shot that bounced off the left post and bounced out.
- Camryn Davis, Georgia Liapis, Kayla Meyer and Alaina Nugier each registered a shot as well.
"We played another good team tonight," said head coach Jason Neidell. "We came out in the first half and still looked rattled from our match against Arkansas last Sunday. Dayton punished us in the first half for that. We engaged the game in a better way in the second half, but it was too little too late."
