DALLAS – Five members of the WKU Track and Field Team have been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Monday.Â
All-American high jumper Katie Isenbarger, thrower Ajla Basic, and multi-athlete Netanya Linares have been named to the women's team while distance runners Jared Sandfoss and Rowen Wilkinson fill out the men's team.
The five representatives for the Hilltoppers are the second most of any school in CUSA.Â
Isenbarger set the program record for the high jump at the Music City Challenge where she cleared 1.88 meters. At the NCAA Qualifying round in Lexington, she managed a first place finish becoming the first Hilltopper since 2019 to qualify for NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Zionsville, Ind. native will compete in the NCAA Outdoor High Jump Championships, Saturday June 8 in Eugene, Ore.
Basic is no stranger to academic feats, as she was named to the CUSA Commissioner's honor roll and received the academic medal in 2022. In the field, Basic took home the bronze medal in the hammer throw at the 2024 CUSA Outdoor Championships. The third place finish was one of three top-three finishes for the native of Sarajevo, Bosnia.
Linares broke the program record in the pentathlon at the CUSA Indoor Championships in February, taking third place. The Graduate Senior followed that up in the outdoor campaign with a bronze medal at the CUSA Outdoor Championships. Linares managed these all while maintaining a 3.75 GPA in the nursing program.
Sandfoss managed a 4.0 GPA and was also named to the Cross Country All-Academic team in the fall of 2023. The Lexington, Ky. native competed in the CUSA Indoor Championships in February. In the outdoor season he set a new best time in the 1500 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, finishing in 4:15.
Wilkinson boasted a GPA of 3.94 this year. The sophomore competed in two meets during the course of the outdoor season, highlighted by a third place finish in the 5000 at the Hilltopper Relays.
