ASHEVILLE, N.C. – WKU Baseball dropped the series opener at UNC Asheville 3-2 on Friday night at Greenwood Baseball Field. The Hilltoppers drop to 31-15 while the Bulldogs improve to 19-23.
Tonight marks the first time all season WKU has outhit an opponent and lost.
UNC Asheville got on the board early with a two-run home run in the first inning before tacking on another in the fourth frame with an RBI double.
The Hilltoppers got two runs back with an RBI on a sacrifice bunt in the sixth and an RBI groundout in the seventh. The WKU offense had two chances to plate the tying run with a runner advancing to second in the eighth and ninth innings.
Senior Cory Bosecker and junior Grant Burleson were stellar out of the bullpen for the Tops as they shutout the Bulldogs for the final 4.0 frames. Each arm tallied 2.0 innings a piece and combined to allow just one hit while striking out a pair.
At the dish, junior Camden Ross went 3-for-3 with two walks while senior Jaylin Rae had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Juniors Eli Burwash and Kyle has also recorded two-hit efforts with Burwash scoring a run in the loss.

The Hilltoppers and Bulldogs will continue their series tomorrow afternoon at Greenwood Baseball Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. CT.
