EL PASO – WKU Track and Field has concluded the second day of action at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships.
On the rest of the weekend, head coach Brent Chumbley said "We are excited to compete for several championships tomorrow."
Netanya Linares got the day started with a podium finish in the heptathlon, she ended up taking the bronze, collecting 4,917 points which is the third best in program history. Rachel Payne also made her mark, taking fourth in the event.
Ajla Basic continued the momentum, claiming a podium finish in the women's hammer throw. In the men's event, Kaison Barton finished just outside the top-five, taking sixth.
In the evening field events, Nick Fornoff took fourth place in the men's high jump. Grace Turner managed a season best pole vault, clearing 3.82 meters, taking eighth place.
On the track, the Tops secured four qualifying bids for the final events tomorrow. Kameron Horton took fourth in the 200 to advance to tomorrow's final. In the men's ranks, Zackery Martinez and Wade Balcom will also compete in finals tomorrow. Martinez in the 400 Hurdles and Balcom in the 800.
For the women, Gianna Huerta will compete in the 400 Hurdles Finals tomorrow after taking eighth in the preliminary round.
Nine events in, the men sit in fifth place with 30 points. Fornoff's performance in the high jump added five points for the day. The duo of Linares and Payne led to 11 total points being garnered for the women's team from that event alone.
Sunday, the Tops will compete for multiple championships, headlined by the women's high jump team which is set to jump at 8 p.m. CT. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+.
