Four different Tops collected hits on the afternoon, as Sophie Weber plated the lone run of the game for the Red and White in the second inning.
LIBERTY 9, WKU 1
WKU got on the board with a one-run double down the right field line off the bat of Sophie Weber, sending Morgan Sharpe across the plate who singled to third base.
The Flames got the go-ahead on a three-run home run in the third, after drawing two walks on the bases.
The Hilltoppers played a tough bottom of the fourth frame, producing two errors, while the Liberty offense picked up six runs off of six hits to finalize the run-rule 9-1 score.
Rylan Smith started in the circle for the Tops and faced 18 batters, retiring four at the plate. After giving up six earned runs off four hits, redshirt-junior Kelsie Houchens came in for relief for the final two outs of the bottom of the fourth inning.
TOP STORYLINES
- Liberty picked up their first-ever program win over WKU, as the Tops continue to lead the all-time series 4-1.
- Brylee Hage, Annie White, Morgan Sharpe, and Sophie Weber all collected hits in the afternoon.
- Weber picked up the lone RBI of the ballgame and brings her total to seven doubles on the season.
- Right-hander Rylan Smith picked up four strikeouts in the afternoon.
- TJ Webster leads the Tops with a .410 batting average, while Morgan Sharpe owns 46 hits on the season. Sharpe leads the league in hits.
- Katie Gardner is operating with a 1.87 ERA to lead the WKU pitching staff, producing 82 strikeouts at the plate. Rylan Smith is next in line with a 3.13 ERA and 87 strikeouts.
- The Hilltoppers and Flames are back to see who takes the series tomorrow, April 7 at the Liberty Softball Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
