MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – WKU Baseball dropped the series opener at Middle Tennessee 16-9 on Friday night at Reese Smith Jr. Field. The Hilltoppers drop to 29-14 (11-5 CUSA) while the Blue Raiders improve to 14-27 (5-11 CUSA).
Two grand slams, a two-run home run, and an RBI triple scored 11 of the 16 runs for MTSU while the other five came from an RBI single, groundout, a fielder's choice, and a WKU error.
At the dish, five Hilltoppers registered multi-hit efforts with junior
Austin Haller recording the only three-hit game while scoring two runs. Sophomore
Dylan O'Connell and junior
Zayd Brannigan each had a pair of RBI with two hits while junior
Kyle Hayes hit his first home run of the season in a two-hit night. Sophomore
Camden Ross also had an RBI with a couple of hits.
After the Blue Raiders scored 10 runs in the first two frames, junior
Cole Heath worked 3.0 innings of scoreless baseball. Graduate student
Coby Moe had the only other shutout frame, sitting down the side in the seventh inning while tallying one strikeout.
