BRIDGEPORT, W.V. – The WKU Men's Golf team are currently in fourth place in the Mountaineer Invitational. The Tops finish comes after posting a 301 and 291 in the first two rounds.
Freshman Gage Doyle led the way for the Red and White. The Texas native is currently tied for 13th after turning in a 77 and 70 in his respective rounds. Doyle shaved seven strokes off of his first round score which put him firmly in the top-15. He put in four birdies and is on track for his best finish yet.
Coming into the top-20 for the Tops is Luke Fuller. Fuller is currently tied for 17th after turning in a 3-over 75 round one followed by a1-over 73 round two. The graduate student will be looking to use his momentum from today going into the final round and climb further into the top-20 and give the Tops a boost in the final round.
Tying with Fuller for 17th is fellow Hilltopper Stephen Warren. Warren birdied on four of his final eight holes in the first round. He used that momentum to shave two strokes off of his round one score and put in a 1-over 73 second round. Warren is in a great position for WKU and has great momentum going into tomorrow's final round.
Right outside of the top-20 is Nic Hofman. Hofman is currently tied for 21st for the Tops. He has been an extremely consistent and valuable piece for the Tops through these first two rounds, meeting par 27 times which is second in the field. Hofman scored a 74 and 75 in his first two rounds.
Connery Meyer rounds things out for WKU, coming in at 87th. Meyer showed improvement in his final round for the Red and White, shaving seven strokes off his first round score. Meyer ended round two with an 8-over 80. The senior put in six birdies on the day.
AS a team, the Tops put in 27 birdies and met par 102 times through both rounds.
WKU will be back in action for the final round of the Mountaineer Classic tomorrow morning. Tee time is scheduled for 8:30 A..M.
