MOBILE, Ala. – The WKU Men's Golf team tuned in a top-10 finish at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The Tops finished the tourney in ninth place.
Graduate student Luke Fuller, who led the way for the Tops throughout the entire tournament, finished tied for 15th. Fuller started out extremely hot for the Tops as he put in three birdies on his first four holes. He would go on to add two more to his already solid round and ended up finishing with an even par-71 final round.
Freshman Gage Doyle had a career tournament for the red and white. The Texas native tied for 34th which is the best finish of his young WKU career. Doyle shot a personal and team best 2-under 69. In addition to the two birdies that Doyle put in, he was also the most consistent player of the entire field as he met par on 18 holes. Doyle's performance has cemented him as a key piece to the program going forward.
Riley Grindstaff also tied for 34th alongside his fellow WKU teammate. The WKU junior moved up 16 spots between the second and third rounds as he ended his tournament tying for 34th. Grindstaff also had a career day for the Tops as he shot a 3-under 68 in his final round. This score tied his career-low which was set at the JT Poston Invitational in 2022. He put in five birdies in his final round and only bogeyed twice throughout.
During his tournament as an individual, Stephen Warren finished his final round with a 4-over 75 score. Warren was able to finish strong on the day, meeting par on three of his final holes and capped off his tournament with a birdie on the 18th. Warren wrapped up the tourney tied for 56th.
Tying for 72nd is Hilltopper senior Connery Meyer. Meyer turned in an 11-over 82 final round for the Tops, including a birdie on his final hole of the day.
Nic Hofman also had a strong closing round for the Tops. Hofman was able to shave a stroke off of his score, turning in a 6-over 77 final round following his hot start. He put in two birdies out of three holes on two different occasions. Hofman finished the tournament with a 20-over 233 total score which gave him a 75th place finish.
The squad will have a week break before they are back in action. The red and white will travel to Kannapolis, North Carolina to compete in the two day Irish Creek Intercollegiate, hosted by Appalachian State. The tourney is set to begin on April 8.
