MOBILE, Ala. – Round one in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate is in the books for WKU men's golf. The Tops currently boast three players in the top-25 and are currently tied for eighth on the leaderboard going into round two.
One of the three Tops in the top-25 is Riley Grindstaff. Grindstaff used his four birdies in round one to score a 2-over 73 score. The WKU junior was very consistent for the tops, scoring par on eight holes as well.
Also tying for 25th on the board is Luke Fuller. The graduate student put in two birdies on her way to a 2-over 73 score. Fuller will be sure to use his momentum from this first round in the second round as well to improve on an already solid outing for him.
Gage Doyle had a career day for the Tops as well. The freshman posted a 2-over 73 as well for the red and white, which is the lowest round of his career so far. Doyle's two birdies in the first round were enough to cement himself in the top-25 going into tomorrow.
Senior Connery Meyer is currently tied for 36th for the Tops. Meyer had a solid outing for the Tops, meeting par on five of his first six holes before a double-bogey set him back on hole seven. Meyer still had great moments for WKU in this first round, putting in three birdies.
Competing as an individual, Stephen Warren tied for 60th on the day. Warren met par on seven of his first nine holes in this tournament. Warren shot a 5-over 76 in the first round and is looking to improve on his position going into tomorrow.
Shooting a 7-over 78 for WKU is Nic Hofman. Hofman's round one resulted in him tying for 72nd going into tomorrow. Hofman found success on the back nine of his first round, putting in back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12.
The second round for the Tops is set to begin tomorrow morning at 7:30 A.M.
