BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Baseball dropped its Conference USA opener to FIU 11-1 on Friday afternoon at Nick Denes Field. The Hilltoppers fall to 15-8 (0-1 CUSA) while the Panthers improve to 12-10 (3-1 CUSA).
FIU jumped on WKU pitching with five runs in the first, two runs in the fourth, three runs in the fifth, and one in the seventh.
The highlight of the day for the Hilltoppers came in the bottom of the first when junior Brady Browning drove in the only run of the game for WKU with an RBI single to left field. Only three other Hilltoppers tallied a hit in juniors Cristian Garcia, Eli Burwash, and Jaylin Rae.
In an otherwise forgetful day for the WKU pitching staff, sophomore Jack Bennett threw back-to-back scoreless innings in the second and third before being relieved in the fourth.
