BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Women's Tennis will take its six-match winning streak to Birmingham, Alabama, for matches at Samford on Friday and UAB on Saturday.
The match against the Bulldogs is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. CT at the Samford Tennis Center and the match against the Blazers is scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT start at Hoover Met Tennis Center.
"We're trying to break through against both of them," Head Coach Greg Davis said. "Playing at their place is going to be very difficult and a challenge. I think winning on the road was big for us at Dayton because it gives us confidence that we can beat good teams on the road and we need that going into Samford and UAB. They're both deep, and year in and year out they're great programs. It's going to be a challenging week."
WKU (9-5) has won six straight matches after last weekend's 4-3 decision at Dayton. Sofia Blanco has led the Lady Toppers in singles play this season with a 12-1 record, while Anna-Marie Kopecka – who clinched the win at Dayton – sits at 9-4. Rachel Hermanova tied the program's career singles wins record against the Flyers and her next win will make her the winningest singles player in program history.
Samantha Martinez has led WKU in doubles play with a 9-3 record, playing with two different partners during the season, and last Saturday's win at Dayton was the 50th of her career – the most in program history. Paola Cortez and Kopecka aren't far behind her with a 7-3 record together this spring.
WKU is 0-2 all-time against Samford. The Bulldogs are 3-10 overall this season.
The Lady Toppers are 1-9 against UAB, with the one win coming in 2018. The Blazers are 10-8 this spring.
