DADE CITY, Fl. – Through two rounds at the Spring Break Shootout, the WKU women's golf team is currently in first place on the leaderboard. The Lady Tops were propelled to the top of the leaderboard through WKU junior Catie Craig's record-breaking round one.
Catie Craig led the way for the red and white, setting a new WKU single-round record as she turned in an 8-under 63 first round. Craig had it going wire-to-wire in round one as she put in seven birdies and even put in an eagle on hole 11. With this record breaking performance, followed by an outstanding round two where she came away with a 4-under 67. Craig is sitting in first place heading into the final round of the tournament by a sizable margin. Craig put in 11 birdies through both rounds.
Right behind Craig is graduate student Sarah Arnold who had her own personal record-setting performance in rounds one and two. Arnold is currently tied for second on the board. Arnold used a very strong second round to cement herself within the top-five. Arnold's 5-under 66 second round marked a new career-low for her. Arnold and Craig are currently tied for the most birdies in the entire field with 11.
Sydney Hackett and Averi Cline are another pair of Lady Tops that have put in outstanding performances in the first two rounds. Hackett and Cline are currently tied for 19th going into Tuesday. Hackett and Cline both finished the day with a 2-over 144 total score. Hackett used her 1-under 70 first round to get herself off to a good start as she is looking for her first top-25 finish of this season. Hackett was very consistent throughout and put in four birdies through day one. Averi Cline also turned in a solid 1-under 70 first round, followed by a 3-over 74 second round. Cline and Hackett are in great standing going into the final round.
Tying for 53rd for WKU is Addie Westbrook. The senior turned in a solid performance for the Lady Tops and was a major piece in helping WKU pull away a bit at the top of the leaderboard. Westbrook put in four birdies on her way to a 7-over 149 total score going into the final round.
In her spring season debut, Faith Martin is currently tied for 71st going into Tuesday. Martin put in four birdies of her own for the red and white. The junior put together a solid opening two rounds, turning in a 2-over 73 and 10-over 81 first and second rounds respectively.
As it stands, WKU leads the field in par 4's and total birdies with 36.
The Lady Tops will conclude the Spring Break Shootout with round three tomorrow for a shotgun start at 8:45 A.M.
