Miamisburg, Ohio – Rachel Hermanova tied the WKU Women's Tennis career singles victories record, Samantha Martinez claimed her program-leading 50th career doubles victory, and the Lady Toppers picked up their sixth straight win by beating Dayton 4-3 on Saturday at the South Regency Tennis Center.
The Lady Toppers earned singles victories from Hermanova, Sofia Blanco, and Anna-Marie Kopecka, and also claimed the doubles point with wins from the pairs of Paola Cortez/Kopecka and Martinez/Mariana Zegada to improve to 9-5 overall on the season.
"Great gutsy win on the road," Head Coach Greg Davis said. "Anna was down 5-4, 40-love, saved four match points, and finished it off. Tremendous win over a talented Dayton team."
Kopecka defeated Dayton's Erica Wojcikiewicz 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to clinch the match for the Lady Toppers. Hermanova defeated Natalie Osiecki 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 for her 44th career singles victory, tying the individual record set by Elpida Malamou from 2014-18. Blanco defeated Neena Katauskas 7-5, 6-3 to improve to 12-1 on the season, after claiming Conference USA's Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday.
In doubles, Cortez and Kopecka defeated Osiecki and Katauskas 6-3, and Martinez and Zegada defeated Laura Greb and Wojcikiewicz 6-3 to claim the match's opening point.
WKU's six-match winning streak is tied for the fourth-best stretch in program history.
The Lady Toppers will next head to Alabama for matches at Samford on Friday, March 22, and at UAB on Saturday, March 23.
