EATONTON, Ga. – The WKU Women's Golf team has concluded its first tournament of the fall season. The Lady Tops have started spring off on the right track as they finished as the runner-up in the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational.
The red and white were led by Catie Craig and Addie Westbrook in the final round as they both finished in the top-five.
Catie Craig continued her great weekend for WKU, finishing third overall. Craig's strong weekend was capped off by a 2-under 70 final round. Her final round included three of her 10 total birdies. Catie finished with a 2-over 218 total score for the weekend.
Tying for fourth is Addie Westbrook who is coming off an extremely impressive second round where she shot up nine spots on the leaderboard. Westbrook turned in a 5-over 77 final round. She tied fellow Lady Topper Catie Craig for the first most birdies in the field with 10.
It was a well-rounded performance for the Lady Tops as Sarah Arnold finished in the top-20 as well. The graduate student finished her tournament tying for 15th after a 1-over 73 final round. Arnold showed her experience and consistency for WKU as she met par 32 times through the entire tournament.
After moving up an impressive 29 spots in the second round, Averi Cline cemented herself in the upper echelon of the leaderboard as she finished tied for 23rd. Cline was impressive for the Lady Tops, finishing with a 4-over 76 final round and an 11-over 227 total score.
Competing as an individual, Savannah Howell finished right outside of the top-40 as she tied for 41st. Howell was consistent through the entirety of the tournament, meeting par 35 times. Howell closed out her tournament with a 5-over 77 final round.
Rounding out the runner-up lineup for the Lady Tops, Sydney Hackett tied for 59th in the field. Hackett turned in a 6-over 78 final round.
WKU finished out the tournament second in par 4's and third overall in birdies with 37 showing the focus of the squad during their impressive showing to start off the spring.
This first showing in the spring has set a great tone for the Lady Tops going into the rest of the season. Head Coach Adam Gary spoke on the outlook for the rest of the season. "I'm pleased with the start to the season. It was nice to knock the rust off and get in tournament mode. I'm looking forward to continuing the momentum into Florida next week."
The Lady Toppers will face a quick turnaround as they will be competing next week as they travel to Jacksonville, Florida to compete in the UNF Collegiate hosted by UNF. The two-day tournament will tee off on March 4.
