Lady Toppers Set For Weekend Match At Murray State

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Women's Tennis will travel to Murray State to face the Racers at Kenlake Tennis Center on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT.

The Lady Toppers enter the match at 3-4 overall after picking up their first road victory of the season last weekend. WKU beat Southern Indiana 6-1 in the second game of a doubleheader after falling to Austin Peay.

"Each one of us has been improving a lot and showing a lot of improvement in their game," WKU junior Mariana Zegada said. "I think that's where we're focusing right now – getting better each week and better each match."

Sofia Blanco has posted the best record in singles play for the Lady Toppers so far this season and enters Saturday's match in Murray with a 6-0 record. The doubles teams of Samantha Martinez/Blanco and Paola Cortez/Anna-Marie Kopecka are 4-2 and 3-1, respectively.

The Racers enter Saturday's match with a 4-1 record.

Murray State leads the all-time series between the two programs 18-5, but the Lady Toppers have won three of the last five matchups, including a 4-3 decision last season in Bowling Green. The two programs have met each of the last four seasons.

"We played them the last two years here, so it's different now to go to their house and try to get the win," WKU junior Rachel Hermanova said. "I think there's always a chance we can we, and there's a good chance we can win, and we just have to be patient and be committed and compete every single point. I'm sure we will do our best against them."
