HUNTSVILLE, TEX. -- WKU Volleyball improved to 15-0 in conference on Friday with a three-set sweep of Sam Houston. Freshman outside hitter Alivia Skidmore led the way with 15 kills while sophomore middle hitter Izzy Van De Wiele led with five blocks.
The Hilltoppers (22-6 overall, 15-0 CUSA) cruised to their 89th win in conference in a row thanks to efforts from Skidmore and Van De Wiele. Six different Hilltoppers also posted at least two kills each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: 25-22
Skidmore quickly set the standard for the Hilltoppers with a .444 [8-0-11] hitting percentage in the first set while collecting eight kills. Alongside Skidmore was senior outside hitter Kaylee Cox with four kills of her own. At the net, Van De Wiele led the way with four blocks while redshirt junior setter Callie Bauer registered 17 assists.
Set 2: 25-20
The Hilltoppers continued swinging in the second set, finishing with a .227 [15-5-44] hitting percentage while SHSU finished with a meager .053 [8-6-38] hitting percentage. Leading the way WKU was Van De Wiele with four kills while also collecting another block. Not long behind her was Cox, adding another three kills of her own.
Set 3: 26-20
Cox came alive in the final set with seven kills with Skidmore backing her up with five of her own. WKU hit for a blistering .571 [20-0-35] while Sam Houston improved to a .385 [12-2-26]. But Skidmore and freshman middle hitter Faith Young registered their first blocks of the night.
