HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Treyson Peters got the starting nod on the mound for the Tops and notched a pair of punch outs in his second inning of work.
- After falling behind early, the Tops battled back in the second inning to score a pair of runs.
- Senior Anthony Westbrook walked in a run before junior Ryan Wideman hit a sacrifice fly to score junior Dylan O'Connell.
- Junior Lucas Litteral pitched a shutout inning after entering in the third and fanned a couple of Vols in the following inning.
- Wideman's second hit of the night was a towering shot over the left center wall – the Hilltoppers lone run in the fifth inning.
- Sophomore Drew Whalen worked a clean frame in the bottom of the sixth.
- Wideman's third RBI of the night came in the seventh inning after he beat out a potential double play ball that scored O'Connell from third.
- Junior Jack Bennett completed the ninth inning without allowing a run, ending the first nine innings of the exhibition.
- After a short break, senior Lucas Hartman got the start on the bump for the final five frames.
- Hartman tallied a pair of strikeouts in the tenth.
- Redshirt junior Carlos Vasquez powered a solo shot over the left field wall in the 11th, the only run of the inning for the Tops.
- Senior Cal Higgins sat down the side in the bottom of the 11th, including one strikeout.
- Junior Kyle Hvidsten led off the top of the 14th with a solo bomb over the left field wall, the final run of the contest for WKU.
- Junior Tanner Mueller closed it down for the Tops as he worked a scoreless frame in the 14th, recording a pair of strikeouts.
NOTABLES
- The Hilltoppers totaled six runs on 12 hits including three home runs from Wideman, Vasquez, and Hvidsten.
- The WKU pitching staff produced 16 strikeouts – two from Peters, two from Litteral, two from Whalen, four from Bennett, two from Hartman, one from Higgins, one from redshirt sophomore Evan Jones, and two from Mueller.
- Hilltopper base runners stole second four times on five attempts – O'Connell, Wideman, Hvidsten, and senior Caleb Marmo each had one.
- Wideman had three of the six RBI for the Tops, going 2-for-5 with a home run, a sacrifice fly, and a fielder's choice RBI.
